On the Agenda - the Issues of Combating Gender Violence

On the basis of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the support of the United Nations, a meeting of the working group on combating gender-based violence was held.

On the basis of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a working group meeting was held on December 14-15 within the framework of the international technical assistance project "Strengthening the national capacity to counteract gender-based violence (with emphasis on domestic violence) in the Republic of Belarus" with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The International Training Center for the Training, Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel in the Sphere of Migration and Counteracting Trafficking in Human Beings hosted staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other ministries (foreign affairs, labor and social protection, health, education), the General Prosecutor's Office, the Supreme Court, representatives of other government agencies and organizations. The meeting was attended by international experts Javier Trucero (Kingdom of Spain) and Shasi Koudry (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

The event was opened by the Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate - Head of the Department of Prevention of the GUOOP MOB MVD Militia Colonel Oleg Karasei, who is also the head of the working group.

Dmitry Shilin, head of the department for national security law enforcement at the National Center for Legislation and Legal Studies, presented the results of the analysis of the Belarusian legislation and institutional capacity for compliance with the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention). The meeting discussed prospects and ways to improve legislation in this area. Foreign experts also spoke on this issue.

The meeting participants also discussed the upcoming events of the international technical assistance project, summed up the results of the meeting.
